The Brain Injury Association of California (BIACAL) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to be the voice of brain injury. Through advocacy, education, and research, BIACAL will bring hope and healing to thousands of Californians with brain injury, their families and the professionals that serve them.
California Pacific Regional Rehabilitation Center provides several inpatient and outpatient programs. Inpatient Acute Specialty Rehabilitation is the Center's highest level of rehabilitation care available. These services are designed for patients whose needs may include inpatient acute rehabilitation nursing care and/or participation in an intensive, coordinated specialty therapy program.

Since 1980, Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) has delivered post-acute medical treatment, therapeutic rehabilitation and disease management services with highly-trained staff for individuals recovering from acquired brain injury. CNS offers a broad menu of rehabilitation services through its individualized treatment programs. Case managers, therapists, nurses and physicians work as an integrated team with patients and their loved ones to meet and achieve rehabilitation goals.
The Leon S. Peters Rehabilitation Center at Community Medical Center treats patients with a variety of conditions. Patients with TBI or recovering from strokes receive a private room. Services include: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Therapy.
Good Samaritan Hospital’s Rehabilitation Program provides multi-disciplinary rehabilitation for adults, using a combination of physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as social support and family involvement. The Rehabilitation Program offers a broad range of services and includes
Founded 1948, the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center (KFRC) provides treatment for patients with acquired neurological disorders, trauma, and neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions. KFRC is the CARF-accredited, regional center for rehabilitation of Kaiser members in Northern California. KFRC offers patients an interdisciplinary approach to promote independent functioning and community reintegration. Forty-eight acute inpatient rehabilitation beds are in operation. As a rehabilitation hospital, care is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Located on 10 acres of ranch land in rural Santa Clara Valley, our Gilroy Program offers structure, support, and treatment for acquired brain injury in a spacious, campus-based living environment. Shared living residences and private rooms are complemented by a treatment and recreation facility for individuals who require intensive support. Our program offers the convenience and amenities of small town living in this supportive community.

Learning Services's programs are designed to provide specialized support for adults with brain injuries in a real life setting. Programs offer a range of residential treatment and supported living options, which provide supportive environments and flexible care plans that match the individual needs of our residents, families, and financial partners. Learning Services provides a broad range of specialized care for individuals with acquired brain injuries, including residential rehabilitation and evaluation services.
The Mission Hospital Brain Injury Center treats all types of head injuries, including concussion and traumatically injured neurologic patients. The Center works with a team of physicians, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists to create treatment and re-entry plans. Families are incorporated into the treatment program; both patients and their families participate in rehabilitation care planning. Mission's TBI program is offered to interested hospitals across the country through the Adam Williams Initiative, which educates clinical teams about the Mission's protocols.
NeuroRestorative provides a continuum of high quality, cost-effective subacute care and rehabilitation options to people of all ages with brain, spinal cord and other life-altering injuries and medically-complex illnesses. We offer a distinctive service delivery model, merging an experienced and skilled health care and rehabilitation team with state-of-the-art technology in community-based program settings designed to meet the unique needs of those we serve at every stage of their recovery.
Since 1976, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has provided categorical care in a Brain Injury program for inpatients and outpatients and was first an RSA, then a NIDRR-designated Model System for TBI since the inception of those programs. Now, SCVCM treats those with mild TBI, very severe injuries, and those transitioning into the community.
The Acute Rehabilitation Brain Injury Program offers services that include coma recovery treatment in acute inpatient care, acute rehabilitation and post-acute treatment. Patients with physical and cognitive limitations re-learn simple tasks while the rehabilitation team assists the patients' family and friends with the adjustment and re-establishment of life within the community. Emotional and psychological support is available to help patients and families deal with the long-term effects of a brain injury.
UCLA Operation Mend provides advanced surgical and medical treatment, as well as comprehensive psychological-health support for post-9/11-era service members, veterans and their families at no cost. The program is available to eligible warriors injured during combat operations or while training for service. Operation Mend was established in 2007 as a groundbreaking partnership among UCLA Health, the United States military and the Department of Veterans Affairs to help heal the wounds of war.
Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (RLANRC) offers The Adult Brain Injury (ABI) Program, which provides case-managed inpatient rehabilitation services to persons over the age of 18 with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. These include injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, blunt trauma, gunshot wounds and anoxia, as well as those combined with spinal injury or orthopedic fractures. Since RLANRC functions as a safety net provider for Los Angeles County, persons with and without funding are eligible for services.
The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program provides services from initial trauma, through medical and physical rehabilitation, behavioral retraining and on to community re-entry. Individual patients are cared for by a team of health professionals (therapists, nurses, case manager, social worker, psychologist, respiratory, urology) who work together with the patient and family in the rehabilitation process. The extent of the head injury will largely determine the degree to which a patient regains his or her functional abilities.
Founded in 1987, The Rehabilitation Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, located in northern San Diego County, provides inpatient and outpatient care for patients with brain injuries, as well as other conditions. The center also has a Brain Injury Day Treatment program. The center provides physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies, as well as other services. The Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and has experience with treating returning soldiers’ combat-related traumatic brain injuries.
Swords to Plowshares' legal services provide free legal consultation and attorney representation to veterans seeking assistance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and military discharge upgrade cases. Their services are targeted to address the needs of homeless and low-income veterans. All services are free of charge.
