Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center

Founded 1948, the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center (KFRC) provides treatment for patients with acquired neurological disorders, trauma, and neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions. KFRC is the CARF-accredited, regional center for rehabilitation of Kaiser members in Northern California. KFRC offers patients an interdisciplinary approach to promote independent functioning and community reintegration. Forty-eight acute inpatient rehabilitation beds are in operation. As a rehabilitation hospital, care is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Learning Services - Northern California Program

Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center - Brain Injury Center

The Mission Hospital Brain Injury Center treats all types of head injuries, including concussion and traumatically injured neurologic patients. The Center works with a team of physicians, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists to create treatment and re-entry plans. Families are incorporated into the treatment program; both patients and their families participate in rehabilitation care planning. Mission's TBI program is offered to interested hospitals across the country through the Adam Williams Initiative, which educates clinical teams about the Mission's protocols.

Northern California Traumatic Brain Injury Model System: Rehabilitation Research Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center

Since 1976, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has provided categorical care in a Brain Injury program for inpatients and outpatients and was first an RSA, then a NIDRR-designated Model System for TBI since the inception of those programs. Now, SCVCM treats those with mild TBI, very severe injuries, and those transitioning into the community.

The Acute Rehabilitation Brain Injury Program offers services that include coma recovery treatment in acute inpatient care, acute rehabilitation and post-acute treatment. Patients with physical and cognitive limitations re-learn simple tasks while the rehabilitation team assists the patients' family and friends with the adjustment and re-establishment of life within the community. Operation Mend

UCLA Operation Mend provides advanced surgical and medical treatment, as well as comprehensive psychological-health support for post-9/11-era service members, veterans and their families at no cost. The program is available to eligible warriors injured during combat operations or while training for service. Operation Mend was established in 2007 as a groundbreaking partnership among UCLA Health, the United States military and the Department of Veterans Affairs to help heal the wounds of war.

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (RLANRC) offers The Adult Brain Injury (ABI) Program, which provides case-managed inpatient rehabilitation services to persons over the age of 18 with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. These include injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, blunt trauma, gunshot wounds and anoxia, as well as those combined with spinal injury or orthopedic fractures. Since RLANRC functions as a safety net provider for Los Angeles County, persons with and without funding are eligible for services.

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center

The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program provides services from initial trauma, through medical and physical rehabilitation, behavioral retraining and on to community re-entry. Individual patients are cared for by a team of health professionals (therapists, nurses, case manager, social worker, psychologist, respiratory, urology) who work together with the patient and family in the rehabilitation process. The extent of the head injury will largely determine the degree to which a patient regains his or her functional abilities.

Scripps Memorial Hospital - Encinitas

Founded in 1987, The Rehabilitation Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, located in northern San Diego County, provides inpatient and outpatient care for patients with brain injuries, as well as other conditions. The center also has a Brain Injury Day Treatment program. The center provides physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies, as well as other services. The Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and has experience with treating returning soldiers’ combat-related traumatic brain injuries.
