Alexander Balbir, PhD, MBA

Former Director of Wounded Warrior Project Independence Services

Dr. Alexander Balbir is the Chief Growth Officer at Sound Off - a mobile resource connecting veterans seeking help with anonymous, long-term mental health support. Dr. Balbir served as the Director of Independence Services at Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Prior to joining WWP, he served in the private sector as a healthcare consultant supporting the Department of Defense Military Health System and as the chief of operations for clinical research at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence. He currently serves in the United States Navy Reserve as a Medical Service Corps Officer hospital/healthcare administrator.

In 2019, Dr. Balbir was selected as a President George W. Bush Veteran Leadership Scholar. With his participation in Stand-To, Alex is hoping to build, grow, and sustain a network of veteran, peer-to-peer groups focused on education and advocacy on the long-term consequences of brain trauma and mental health conditions.

Dr. Balbir obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in public health and physiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, focusing his work on sleep disorders in brain injury and post-traumatic stress. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School, focusing on organizational management and entrepreneurship.
