Being aware of symptoms post TBI is crucial to getting the appropriate medical treatment.
There are not enough mental health providers available to screen all the individuals who have traumatic brain injury. What is probably most important is for the individual who has sustained a traumatic brain injury--or their support systems, their family, their caregivers-- to be aware that changes in emotion and behavior are very common after brain injury, are a result of the injury, and then bring it to the attention of the appropriate physician or medical provider to make sure that this condition gets the appropriate attention and treatment.
