The Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) at TIRR Memorial Hermann brings together world-renowned researchers to study the many complicated facets of recovery from brain injury. The BIRC has been able to leverage resources from the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and from the National Institutes of Health to conduct research in a manner that facilitates the greatest progress in identifying effective treatments.

Covenant Medical Center

Covenant offers inpatient and outpatient neurological rehabilitation care. Inpatient services are offered through Covenant’s NeuroScience Institute. Covenant treats patients recovering from a stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, or any other neurological condition. Therapies include cognitive retraining, expressive and receptive language skills training, muscle stimulation techniques, bioness technologies, neurodevelopmental techniques, activities of daily living, and an RT300 Electrical Stimulation Bike.

Located on ETMC Tyler's Olympic Plaza Campus, the ETMC Rehabilitation Center offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital is a 62-bed acute medical rehabilitation hospital that offers both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. This site serves patients in the Southwest Fort Worth area. Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital offers 31 semi-private rooms. Family members are welcome to attend therapy sessions. Highlands Regional Rehabilitation Hospital

Highlands Regional Rehabilitation Hospital offers an inpatient rehabilitation program for traumatic brain injury survivors. The program provides rehabilitative nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and other services. The brain injury rehab program focuses on self-care skills such as: feeding, grooming, bathing and dressing, mobility skills such as transferring, walking or self-propelling a wheelchair, communication skills in speech and language, and cognitive skills such as memory or problem-solving, social skills for interacting with other people.

North Texas Traumatic Brain Injury Model System at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

In 2002, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation (BIR)  were awarded a five-year grant to be a Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (TBIMS) by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). Following re-competition in 2007, the North Texas TBI Model System was awarded an additional 5 year grant by NIDRR.

Reeves Rehabilitation Center

Reeves offers acute care services for people that have sustained brain injuries. Reeves also offers an outpatient program for patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. The day program focuses on improving cognitive and physical function for the transition into the community and home. The team is made up of physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, rehab psychologists, and social workers.
