The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, provides primary care to veterans throughout 29 counties of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. Approximately 50,000 veterans live in the service area and about 40 percent of them receive care at the Medical Center annually.

The St. Louis Polytrauma Network Site is one of 23 facilities in the country designed to provide long-term rehabilitative care to Veterans and Servicemembers who experienced severe injuries (including brain injuries) to more than one organ system. St. Louis has a OEF/OIF Post Deployment Integrated Care Clinic, a unique clinic designed for the returning combat veteran. The staff has been trained to provide care for the returning OEF/OIF combat veteran because they understand the needs of combat veterans differ from those of non-combat veterans.
