Approximately 50,000 veterans live in the service area and about 40 percent of them receive care at the Medical Center annually.

Polytrauma - St. Louis VA Medical Center
The St. Louis Polytrauma Network Site is one of 23 facilities in the country designed to provide long-term rehabilitative care to Veterans and Servicemembers who experienced severe injuries (including brain injuries) to more than one organ system. St. Louis has a OEF/OIF Post Deployment Integrated Care Clinic, a unique clinic designed for the returning combat veteran. The staff has been trained to provide care for the returning OEF/OIF combat veteran because they understand the needs of combat veterans differ from those of non-combat veterans.

The John Cochran Division, named after the late Missouri congressman, is located in midtown St. Louis and has all of the medical center's operative surgical capabilities, the ambulatory care unit, intensive care units, outpatient psychiatry clinics, and expanded laboratory.
