I was hit by a car last year and suffered severe traumatic brain injury (my GCS was 3), they had to remove 2 pieces of my skull to relieve the brain swelling. I guess I must be lucky or something because the best news (should I not die) that they could give my husband was that I would be a vegetable in a nursing home for the rest of my life. Such was not the case. I'm back at work, my brain functions are pretty normal (not as good at multi-tasking as I used to be, but I'm sure this will improve), I'm not overly sensitive or depressed, and generally really happy to have made it! I enjoyed this piece very much, and just wanted to say thank you. =)

Im so grateful coming across this website. Thank you for sharing your experience. Good to see some great survivors so blessed God is amazing

This has been a great help for me as caregiver to my husband who has cognitive deficits, short term memory loss, antegrade and retrograde amnesia, impulsivity, and poor judgment from resection of a colloid cyst. Thank you.

This is rather depressing for me to read. I have a TBI and it is rather hard to deal with. I understand your trying to help ,but it is hard for me. Would enjoy seeing the positive side of healing even if it is to the smallest extent in you writings. ,Thank you

Hi David, I was in a motorcycle accident in 1980. My head hit the pavement at 60mph. I had many issue following the accident, many of my family and friend believed me to be permanently disabled. I was 19 y/o and in collage at the time. Because I received a TBI I loss about half of my previous memories, and was not able to read or write. It took a long time but I taught myself to read and wright. I even went back to collage and graduated. It is not easy and I have struggled with memory issues my whole life. But it can be done. Your live is not what you planned, but it can be pretty dam good.

Thank you for your post. I got hit in the drivers door by a fully loaded tanker truck. I broke my lower back in two places and my neck in one. I received 5 skull fractures and lost my right ear completely. I get so angry that I cant speak. My wife and children know I have a safe word. If I yell popsicle they immediately leave my vicinity. I cant remember my wife ever being pregnant with my daughter. I'm constantly saying one thing, but everyone seems to do something else. I'm paranoid and dont want to leave the house. My mother and father have only been to visit once since the accident which happened in 2011. My brothers and sister dont respond to my calls. I am soooo tired. I cant sleep in one position for more than 45 min or I lose feeling in both my legs and arms. I hurt on a constant basis and cannot afford the pain pills so I constantly want to make someone kill me. I love you, God Bless You
