Mayo Clinic Traumatic Brain Injury Model System

In 1998, the Mayo Clinic's TBI Research program was designated a Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (TBIMS) by National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The Mayo Clinic TBIMS is one of 16 facilities in the United States supported by a grant from NIDRR, and has been funded continuously since 1998. The current funding cycle is 2007-2012. The Mayo Clinic's TBI research program is directly aligned with the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research's mission to improve the lives of individuals who experience TBI, their families and communities.  Mayo Clinic TBIMS researches and provides education about the natural course of TBI recovery, rehabilitation treatment and outcomes following TBI.  The program's mission is to study the course of long-term recovery after TBI, and to develop, provide and evaluate services that address the specific needs of people living with traumatic brain injury.
