BrainLine Blogger

Janna Hockenjos is published author, yoga teacher, and life coach living in Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and their Golden Retriever. She is the owner of Inhale Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh’s downtown yoga studio and has written two books. He Never Liked Cake is a memoir of growing up with her father's brain injury, and Move Feel Think: Yoga for Brain Injury, PTSD, and Other Forms of Trauma is a colorful guidebook of 20 yoga poses that is specifically designed to help those who live with brain injury and trauma experience the positive benefits of the practice.

Janna was 14-years-old when her father was in a car accident that resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. Back then, no one knew much, and Janna took to reading every book she could find about brain injury – beginning with Where is the Mango Princess? She later moved from western PA to New York City, where she obtained her master’s in journalism from New York University and became a regular contributor to magazines, blogs, and websites on topics ranging from practicing yoga to effective marketing to living with brain injury. After nearly a decade in New York City, Janna moved to Pittsburgh.

No matter where she lives and what she does, Janna credits any success to the love and resilience that both of her parents have shown her. When she’s not writing, teaching yoga, coaching, or advocating for a better quality of life for anyone impacted by brain injury, you can find her somewhere out in nature in her bare feet.
