CAPT Paul Hammer is a board-certified psychiatrist and currently serves as the director of the Naval Center for Combat and Operational Stress Control in San Diego, California. He completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, and his psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Throughout his Navy career, he has had extensive experience in leading mental health interventions in natural disasters, military training mishaps, and in combat. He has deployed twice to Iraq, most recently in 2006 as the Marine Expeditionary Force psychiatrist supervising mental health care for more than 33,000 service members in Al Anbar province. CAPT Hammer's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Rifle and Pistol ribbons.
