Coping Skills and Self-Esteem Are Important After a TBI

Evaluation of coping resources and self-esteem as moderators of the relationship between threat appraisals and avoidance of activities after traumatic brain injury

This study suggests that the self-esteem of people with brain injury is critical to maintaining their participation in activities. Researchers found that people with low self-esteem or who had poor coping skills after TBI tended to avoid situations because of the possibility or “threat” of a negative outcome.
