DVBIC - Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center

The Fort Hood site of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center extends the overall center’s mission of providing education and clinical care services concerning traumatic brain injury (TBI) to our region’s active, Reserve, Guard and community populations. This is accomplished through close command and community contact, integration of clinical care coordination with the health care delivery system, both on post and in the community network.

The TBI system of care at Fort Hood begins in the soldier readiness process upon a soldier’s return from deployment. TBI screenings are conducted at this time. Those soldiers screening positive for concussion receive a referral for the Level II TBI center. Here, a full history and physical are obtained and concussion-related symptoms are addressed. Most of the service members with concussion are managed in this clinic; however, those with more significant or complex problems are referred to the Level III TBI clinic.
