Men and Women Fare the Same Cognitively After Brain Injury

Does Gender Influence Cognitive Outcome After Traumatic Brain Injury?

In this study, men and women with mild to severe traumatic brain injury were compared on measures of cognitive skills typically affected by TBI (i.e., processing speed, executive functioning, and memory). Overall, the findings suggest that cognitive outcome after brain injury does not differ according to gender, with the possible exception of memory functioning. Women with a mild TBI scored significantly higher than men on a test of visual memory.
