Caron Gan, R.N., M.Sc.N., R.M.F.T., AAMFT Approved Supervisor
Caron Gan is an RN and Marriage and Family Therapist, registered with the Ontario and American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. For the past 18 years of a 30-year career in healthcare and rehabilitation, she has worked with clients with acquired brain injury, providing psychotherapeutic intervention to youth, adults, couples, and families. Currently, she is working with the Family Support Service team at Bloorview Kids Rehab, a community-based program for youth and young adults with brain injury and their families. She has presented extensively on topics of family adjustment after brain injury, intimacy and sexuality after brain injury, and most recently on culturally competent rehabilitation practice. As an Approved Supervisor through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, she also provides clinical supervision and training to clinicians around family therapy intervention. She has been principal investigator on studies of family outcome after brain injury and a co-investigator on a study of best practices with families after brain injury. For the past year, she has been leading a research team to develop an empirically based intervention for adolescents with brain injury and their families. In addition to these responsibilities, she juggles her time with a busy private practice that is dedicated to clients with brain injury and their families.
On March 13, 2009, BrainLine had the opportunity to sit down with Caron Gan to talk about traumatic brain injury.
